Overview

Baby Quasar photo rejuvenation systems first became famous with the Baby Quasar Red, a personal light therapy device that helped consumers skip the spa or doctor's office and fight the signs of aging in the comfort of their own home. For those with acne-prone skin, Baby Quasar created the Baby Blue to work with the Baby Quasar Red, not only to clear blemishes and reduce inflammation, but to further diminish the signs of aging and promote healing and collagen production. The result is a clear, youthful, even-toned complexion with a radiant glow. This review will focus on the Baby Quasar Baby Blue, so, if you'd like to learn more about the Baby Quasar Red specifically, please see our dedicated review on it. The Baby Blue works by releasing wavelengths of blue light, which penetrate deep into your skin to kill the bacteria causing blemishes and to treat inflammatory acne vulgaris (or cystic acne). Unfortunately, the device isn't meant to completely replace your current acne treatment routine, but it will help enhance and improve the effectiveness of those products without any of the irritating side effects typical of acne treatments.

You can purchase Baby Quasar devices on BabyQuasar.com or on other online retailers such as SkinStore.com or Dermstore.com. The Baby Quasar Baby Blue is approximately $348 or you can get the Baby Quasar Red and Baby Blue "Power Pack" for about $700. There are a bunch of sites that offered discounted products, but the offer usually doesn't include the manufacturer's full 5-year warranty.

Product Report Card Grade

We give Baby Quasar’s Baby Blue an A- because it is a painless, non-invasion way to help treat mild to moderate acne. While expensive, it is much more economical than undergoing phototherapy sessions at a spa, and it comes with a 5-year warranty (plus 60-day money back guarantee). We deducted points because of its cost (especially when combined with the Baby Quasar Red) and because treatments are time-consuming.

How It Works
Releases wavelengths of blue light that penetrate deep into your skin to kill acne-causing bacteria, P. acnes, and soothe inflammatory acne vulgaris. Basically, within P. acnes bacteria, there are small molecules known as porphyrins. When exposed to 420 nm and shorter wavelengths of light, porphyrins generate free radicals that attack and kill P. acnes bacteria.
Powerful MicroClearâ„¢ technology helps the key acne medicine, salicylic acid, unclog congested pores and penetrate deep under the surface of your skin to fight acne at its source. At the same time, the unique formula contains moisturizers to hydrate and soften skin, as well as calming ingredients to reduce redness and irritation.
Benzoyl Peroxide increases cell turnover to unclog pores and destroys acne-causing bacteria below the surface of your skin to eliminate and prevent future breakouts.

Key Features

Product Size
I found a lot of variation regarding the size of the devices online, so I called customer service to set the record straight. The Baby Quasar Baby Blue is the same size as the Baby Quasar Red. It is 6.5" tall, the head is 1.25" in diameter, and it weighs less than 8 ounces.
Skin Type
All skin types and skin tones (including sensitive skin)
Skin Concern
Mild to moderate acne only
Product Design
The Baby Blue is made out of a durable aluminum, high quality electrical components and emits a blue light.
How it works
The blue LED light therapy helps to control breakouts by killing acne-causing bacteria, P. acnes, and also soothes inflammatory acne vulgaris. Basically, within P. acnes bacteria, there are small molecules known as porphyrins. When exposed to 420 nm and shorter wavelengths of light, porphyrins generate free radicals that attack and kill P. acnes bacteria.
Directions
The treatment cycle is 16 minutes and is recommended once a week for at least 4 weeks to see results. Depending on your skin type and specific concerns, you can determine the frequency of treatments and whether you need to use the device for the full 16 minutes or whether you just want to use it for spot treatments. The Baby Blue should only be used on days that you aren't using the Baby Quasar Red.
  1. Wash your face thoroughly and pat dry. You don't want to use a cleanser that will leave a residue or apply any products (toners, lotions, etc.) to your face because it will obstruct the light from effectively penetrating your skin.
  2. Mentally divide your face into 4 sections. Starting in the top right section, move the wand slowly over the area in a circular motion for four minutes. The wand should be hugging the curve of your face so that the light is penetrating your skin. After four minutes, you will hear a soft tone signaling that it is time to move to the next section of your face. Moving in a counter clockwise rotation, treat all four sections.
  3. You can also choose to just treat a single area of your face (about the size of your palm) for 4 minutes.
Care Instructions
You never want to immerse the device in water. After each treatment, unplug the device and carefully clean it with cotton swabs dipped in alcohol. Cleaning is important because you don't want dirt to obstruct the light or spread bacteria that could cause more zits.
Side Effects
Light therapy is painless and non-invasive, so there are minimal side effects. However, you do have to avoid shining the light in any mucus membranes, like your nose or eyes, as it may cause sores.
Warnings
Do not use the Baby Blue on the base of your throat over your thyroid gland. As with the Baby Quasar Red, you should check with your doctor before using the device if you are pregnant, have epilepsy OR if you are on steroids, cortisone injections, thyroid medication or medication which may cause photosensitivity.
Warranty
If you buy the device on the official website, you will get a 5 year, fix or replace, warranty with no questions asked. Baby Quasar also offers Toll Free telephone support with a Baby Quasar expert during normal East Coast business hours (M-F, 9am - 5pm ET). Some other online retailers (such as Amazon.com) have discount Baby Quasar products, but they only offer a 1 year warranty. Most websites I saw offered at least a 30 or 60 day money back guarantee.

Reputation

There aren't many reviews online for the Baby Quasar Baby Blue, and I think that it is because some people have just put their reviews under the Baby Quasar Red or the Power Pack (Red + Baby Blue). The Baby Blue did receive a 4.7/5 on Amazon.com (7 reviews), a 4.5/5 on Skinstore.com (4 reviews) and a 3.8/4 on Overstock.com (3 reviews). In general, the reviews I saw were really positive unless the reviewer was someone expecting $350 to buy a miracle. Nothing is going to completely cure your acne. However, if you are still struggling to control mild to moderate breakouts with your current skincare products, the Baby Blue could be an amazing addition to your routine. As opposed to other acne treatments, the Baby Blue is safe and gentle on your skin. It doesn't use chemicals, and it won't leave your skin dry, red, irritated or flakey.

For the best overall results, it sounds like you really need to get both the Baby Quasar Red and Baby Blue (approx. $700). At first, I thought it was insanely expensive, but, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it isn't a bad deal for two products that work. Over time, it could actually bring down my skincare costs if I didn't have to see my esthetician as much and could get out of buying a few of these other $100 serums, lotions and potions. After researching the Baby Quasar products, I'm definitely looking forward to trying out the Power Pack for myself, but I'll probably buy from BabyQuasar.com (instead of the discount websites) to ensure I have the 5-year warranty in case anything goes wrong.
