We give the LG 22.4 cu. ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator (LDC22720ST and LDC22720SW) a B+ because it is a stylish, ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerator that is well made and has great useable capacity compared to similar machines in the narrow width category. The LDC22720 has excellent temperature performance and also has some of the same features as higher priced models like an open door alarm, accelerated freezing technology, adjustable moisture control in the crispers and two separate temperature controls for the fridge and the freezer. We had to deduct a few points because some customers had issues with the performance of the icemaker, but, otherwise, this is an excellent buy for smaller kitchens or as a 2nd refrigerator.
You can see how the LG 22.4 cu. ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator (LDC22720ST and LDC22720SW) compares to other refrigerators in our Refrigerator Review.
The LG LDC22720 is an ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerator that uses 465 kWh of power per year, and LG estimates that it will cost you about $50/year to run. It features energy efficient foam insulation to lock in cold air and has a Linear Compressor and Dual Evaporators for controlling temperature and humidity. It also has a Multi-Air Flow Freshness System that maintains consistent, uniform internal temperatures in the fridge and the freezer. The system utilizes 3 digital temperature sensors, a fresh air filter and numerous vents to keep cold, fresh air circulating throughout each compartment. Lastly, the refrigerator has a touchpad digital control panel where you can make precise temperature adjustments to the fridge or the freezer.
The LG LDC22720 has a total capacity of 22.4 cu. ft., and both compartments are designed to maximize useable capacity and make it easy to see and access food. The fresh food compartment has 15.5 cu. ft. of capacity and features four adjustable, split shelves with tempered glass, two humidity-controlled crispers and a snack bin. Its door has a dairy bin and five adjustable, gallon-size door bins (Design-A-Door system). The pull-out freezer has 6.9 cu. ft. of capacity. Inside, there are two separate drawers to help keep food organized including one DuraBase™ full-width shelf and one wire shelf. Overall, the LDC22720 has great capacity for a refrigerator in the narrow width category (33”).
The LG LDC22720 has a factory-installed automatic icemaker (CustomCube™) on the top shelf of the freezer, but, unfortunately, it does not use filtered water. However, the icemaker does feature IcePlus™ accelerated freezing technology and can produce as much as 6 pounds of ice in a 24-hour period. The refrigerator also has a built-in air filter that helps reduce odors and keeps food fresher for longer, and both the compartments are well lit thanks to two 60W light bulbs in the fridge and one 40W light bulb in the freezer. Lastly, for households with kids or forgetful family members, the LDC22720 has a built-in alarm that will start to beep if the door has been accidentally left open for longer than a minute.
The LG LDC22720 is a bottom-freezer refrigerator with a pull-out freezer drawer, and it is available in Smooth White (LDC22720SW) or Stainless Steel (LDC22720ST). It has matching commercial handles, contoured doors and hidden hinges for a sleek look. It also has reversible doors, so it fits easily into any kitchen set up.
In terms of overall customer satisfaction, LG (as a brand) received higher than average ratings from a 2013 J.D. Power & Associates survey of refrigerator owners. This particular refrigerator model has also earned a recommendation from Consumer Reports with a score of 71/100 (overall highest score was 73/100). Consumer Reports noted that it was quiet, had excellent temperature performance and very good energy efficiency. The LDC22720 comes with a 1-year limited warranty on parts and labor for the entire unit and a 7-year limited warranty on parts for the Sealed System (Compressor, Condenser, Evaporator).
The LG 22.4 cu. ft. Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator has received very good feedback from customers online including an average of 4.35/5 on LG.com (141 reviews on the LDC22720SW and 190 reviews on the LDC22720ST) and a 4.5/5 on Abt.com (45 reviews on the LDC22720ST). Overall, customers have been pleased the LDC22720’s overall value in terms of its price, look, quality and performance. While professional tests found the LDC22720 to be relatively quiet, customer reviews were more mixed, and so you may want to listen to it in person if you think noise could be an issue in your kitchen. Most of the negative comments I came across made some mention of an issue with the icemaker’s performance. While the icemaker didn’t work well for some customers, it produced too much ice for others and cubes overflowed into the freezer. A couple of customers also had an issue with the door not closely tightly and they didn’t realize it was open since the fridge only beeps when the door is left fully open. That said, the LDC22720ST and LDC22720SW both sound like great refrigerators in the narrow-width category and within this price range.
