Overview

The Weslo Cadence G-40 is a very inexpensive treadmill with few bells and whistles. The 2.25 HP Impulse™ Motor allows the treadmill to reach speeds of up to 10mph, and you can choose from 4 "Personal Training Workouts" to help vary the intensity of your workout. The G-40 has a manual incline feature with 3 incline options to help you target different muscles. The console has an LCD display screen that monitors your speed, time, distance and calories burned. There is also a sensor that keeps track of your heart rate through your thumb. Finally, the console has a cool RaceTrack™ feature, which allows you to watch your progress every 1/4 mile as if you were actually running outside on a track.

You can purchase the Cadence G-40 on http://www.weslo.com for $300.

Product Report Card Grade

We give the Weslo Cadence G-40 a B- because it is a good, inexpensive motorized treadmill that can reach speeds of up to 10mph. It features a heart rate monitor and has an LCD display screen for tracking speed, time, distance and calories. While the G-40 seems like a great deal, we had to deduct points because of its short warranty and some reported quality issues. It also only has three manual incline settings and doesn’t have a built-in fan.

Pros
Affordable motorized treadmill; folds for easy storage; RaceTrack™ feature helpful motivator; heart rate monitor
Inexpensive with excellent warranty and many of the bells & whistles seen on higher priced models; adequate belt size; quiet and powerful motor; heavy steel frame won't shake; speed and incline ranges provide lots of combinations to vary the intensity of your workout; fan keeps you cool; easy to use
Inexpensive with a good warranty; no assembly required; better incline than other compact, budget treadmills; folding design great for people with limited space; easy to use; purchase includes 4 months of free access to LifeSpan Fitness Club, which is a great way to kick start fitness routine
Cons
Very short warranty; some users had a difficult time setting it up; manual incline with only 3 options; narrow belt
Machine is large and doesn't fold up all the way, so not great for small spaces; many users expressed frustration with the set-up and especially with the belt, which needs to be lubricated initially and then again every 150 miles; some users were annoyed that the power switch is at the base of the machine instead of on the console; treadmill will trip GFCI breakers; console does not show you miles per minute
Good for walking and light jogging but not great for intense workouts given the motor size, belt size and lack of cushioning; slight burning smell noted by some users after 30 minutes of use; some users didn't feel the speakers were very good; doesn't have a built-in fan, reading shelf or cup holder

Reputation

The Weslo Cadence G-40 gets very mixed reviews from its customers, and the Treadmill Doctor gives it a 2.31 out of 10. That said, you are buying a $300 treadmill and get what you pay for even if the marketing does make it sound like a great deal. The warranty should be a great indication of the manufacturer's confidence in their product. If you can wait, you are probably better off saving to buy a slightly more expensive treadmill with a better track record.
