Overview

Eureka! has been manufacturing tents since 1895 for everything from a backyard sleepover to an Everest expedition. The brand has a reputation for providing great value, which is evident in their popular line of budget family tents, the Copper Canyon Series. Copper Canyon tents are freestanding, cabin style tents that can be used in three seasons for car camping or as a base camp. One of the most comfortable models in the series is the Copper Canyon 5 + Screen Room. The tent has a total of 160 ft²" of space that is divided equally into two rooms and separated by an interior door. In the sleeping room, you can easily fit up to five people on the floor or two cots with gear. The second room is perfect for hanging out or cooking. It is floorless but has a sod cloth around the bottom and is screened with no-see-um mesh for extra protection from bugs and weather. The main door to the screen room is a side-opening, twin-track door that has roll-back storm flaps and an overhead brim for extra protection in wet conditions. There is a second entrance to the tent through the sleeping room for additional convenience. The Copper Canyon 5 also has impressive waterproofing features. It has a StormShield outer fly, storm flaps for the windows, multi-coated walls and a bathtub style floor design in the sleeping room for extra protection from ground water. With vertical walls, mesh doors, mesh windows and skylights in both rooms, the Copper Canyon 5 feels open, airy and spacious. Setting it up is a breeze with Eureka's intuitive steel and fiberglass frame, clip attachments, and a ring and pin assembly. You won't need to use stakes or guy lines except in case of severe weather. With (almost) all the comfort of home, the Copper Canyon 5 + Screen Room is perfect for your next family camping trip.

The Eureka! Copper Canyon 5 + Screen Room retails for $419.90, but you can find it at a discounted price on sites like Amazon.com, Campmor.com or Backcountry.com.

Product Report Card Grade

We give Eureka’s Copper Canyon 5 + Screen Room an A- because it is truly the ultimate tent for family/car camping. With 160 ft²" of space divided equally into two rooms and three doors, its feels almost like a home away from home. We deducted just a few points because the screen room doesn’t have a floor and some customers reported insects and even small animals sneaking their way inside.

Cons
screen room doesn't have a floor and the sod cloth didn't protect a few reviewers from insects (and even a small animal) from getting into the tent; cabin style tents are very unstable in windy conditions because of their high walls; flat top means water can pool on the fly if you don't use guylines to change the slope; pretty heavy
very expensive; inner first pitching could be problematic in wet conditions
relatively expensive; it's on the heavier side for tents in this category; some reviewers thought it was really difficult to get the poles to release during takedown

Two people can easily set up the tent in about 20 minutes thanks to its shockcorded steel and fiberglass frame, clip attachments, and ring and pin assembly. You won't need to use stakes or guy lines except in case of severe weather.
It does not have a fast pitch option, but it can be easily set up in about 15 minutes since it has color-coded poles and continuous pole sleeves on the four poles. The inner tent must be pitched first, and then the flysheet and enhanced guy line system with titanium pegs help secure it to the ground.
One person can quickly and easily set up the tent in under 10 minutes because it features the DAC® Jake's Feet corner anchor system. Basically, it uses ball and socket attachments that lock in the main poles and then act as levers to keep the tent corners grounded while the rainfly is pulled over the top of the tent. DAC® J-Stakes are also available if extra stability is required in windy conditions.
Extras
Designed to accommodate the Eureka! rope light if you want to purchase one ($20).
This is an updated version of the popular tent and features a redesigned inner tent that is lighter and better ventilated.
Tent features the LightPocket™, which holds your headlamp and has a diffusing fabric to provide even lighting in the tent.

Reputation

The Eureka! Copper Canyon 5 + Screen Room is the "updated" version of the Copper Canyon 1610 and is essentially the same exact tent except Eureka! marketed the 1610 as a 6-person tent. The Copper Canyon 5 hasn't received any customer reviews, but the 1610 received a few good reviews online from customers including a 4.1/5 on Amazon.com (18 reviews), a 3.8/4 on Campmor.com (9 reviews) and a 4.7/5 on Cabelas.com (7 reviews). Most people were please with Eureka's waterproofing and the tent's overall craftsmanship, but there were very mixed reviews on the floorless screen room. Some people were annoyed that insects and critters could still get into the tent despite the sod cloth, while others loved that it was a place to hang out, eat, smoke, etc. without having to remove your shoes. In general, the 1610 sounds like it is a really comfortable tent for a large group, and the majority of the negative comments I saw could be easily remedied or overlooked given the tent's affordability.
